Meeting next Wednesday will focus on closure of Frankford Avenue bridge

The Holmesburg Civic Association will hold a meeting on Wednesday to discuss the work on the historic Pennypack Creek bridge.

The Holmesburg Civic Association will hold a meeting on Wednesday, March 21, at 7 p.m. at the Insectarium and Butterfly Pavilion, 8046 Frankford Ave., to discuss the upcoming work on the historic Frankford Avenue bridge over Pennypack Creek.

The bridge will be closing on March 26 due to PennDOT’s capital project to rehabilitate and restore the structure. The closure will last for five months, during which time the roadway and both sidewalks will be closed.

At the March 21 meeting, PennDOT representatives will speak with community members and roadway users to answer questions and address concerns.

Traffic will be detoured during construction between Solly Avenue and Ashburner Street. During the five-month closure, motorists will be detoured over Rhawn Street, Torresdale Avenue and Linden Avenue. Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone. Detour routes and aids to navigation signs will be posted for pedestrians and recreational users of Pennypack Creek, respectively.
